Never Buy New Cars?
At some point, most of us have considered buying a brand new car. The funny thing is as soon as we have our car, we want a better one. Not only do we want a better one, but we want the most expensive one in the store. What if I told you that you don´t even need to buy a new one? Now I’m not saying you should roll around in a 1977 Jalopy with a rusted fender, but used cars can be an amazing opportunity…
You Can Get Amazing Deals
New cars can be ridiculously expensive. Plus, you might not know this, but cars experience an immense lost in value as soon as they are driven off the lot. According to Edmunds, a new and used car pricing authority, a new car loses 11% of its value the moment you leave the lot. Ouch.
But, depending on your point of view this could be bad news or the gateway to astonishing deals. If you´re willing to go used (or pre-owned if that makes you a little more comfortable) then this is should be music to your ears!
Not only will the car be much cheaper than if you bought it in the store, but you won’t take that big hit in the car’s equity as soon as you drive it away. You can even buy a Porsche at a much reasonable price than if were to go to the store and buy it from there (that would be way too expensive). So before you head to Audi´s headquarters, consider buying a used car instead. If you look carefully and have luck you can find plenty of low-mileage diamonds in the rough just waiting to be scooped up and driven away.
They Might Come With Extras
There´s actually a big chance the previous owner modified your new car in one way or another. Perhaps they added protective films or leather seats. Features like these ones won´t add any extra value to the car. However, you will be able to enjoy them for free. The best part is you didn’t even expect to get these extras in your car. Nothing like a bonus. Score!
You Will Avoid Some Fees
Getting a new car directly from the dealer will definitely come with some fees. The amount of extra money you will have to pay depends pretty much on the area you’re living in. However, most of these fees can be avoided by getting a used car from a private party. I emphasize private party because purchasing a used car from a car dealership might also come with some extra fees.
You Can Customize
If you know about cars and manage to get an amazing deal you will be saving a lot of money. Not that you have some extra cash you can use it to turn the car into your dream buggy. Buying extras or accessories for used cars is usually cheaper than purchasing accessories for new cars. You can change the tires or add special headlights and you will probably still be paying a lot less than if you had bought it from the car dealership.
Just make sure you don´t exaggerate with the extras and add-ons for you might end up spending far more than you initially expected!
I hope I have convinced you that buying a used car is a much better deal than buying a new one. Not only will you have a wider range of available options, but you are guaranteed that every single one of those options will be cheaper. On top of that, you might get lucky with your car and receive it with some extras you didn’t even ask for.
Always remember to make an in-depth inspection before buying a used car. A Carfax report is STRONGLY encouraged whenever buying used. Although it has the potential to be the best deal of your life, you can end up losing a lot of money if you don’t do your homework!
