All About Self-Love
It is day two of my pre-New Me Makeover coutndown! I am getting super duper excited! 🙂 If you missed yesterday’s post I am easing myself into this huge makeover by completing Celestine Chua’s 15 day affirmation challengeon her blog Personal Excellence.
Now on to the challenge!
Today’s awesome challenge is all about self-love. I absolutely love this topic! (no pun intended!) I struggled a long time with confidence and being confortable in my body, and have spent years fighting with my own brain. I used to have a lot of negative, sef-doubting thoughts.
I was even worse with the “conditional self-love.” I woud have thoughts like “I will be awesome when I lose this weight.” Or “If only I had long hair I would be so beautiful.” There was always an if-only involved.
I am a firm believer in the fact that our thoughts create our reality, and now days I really really try to only let good, loving thoughts in my brain.
If you know me, you know this doesn’t always work!
But I am always trying to show myself some love, and I was hyped to see that self-love is todays topic. So without further ado, on to the daily tasks!
Identify any self-hating thoughts you may have
“I hate that I don’t have an ass.” “Jeez, I can’t believe I did that stupid thing…” “God, sometimes I swear, I’m such a screw up.” Even though I try to banish them, those negative thoughts still pop up sometimes, especially when I say something I regret (and since I have almost no filter on my mouth sometimes, that happens a lot!)
Identify the reason behind this self-hate
Most of the thoughts come from body insecurities (We all have them!) and regrets about things I say or do. We all want to be the best we can be, but sometimes we lose sight of our awesomeness while trying to be perfect!
Change your self-hating thoughts
Instead of being body critical, whenever I have those yucky thoughts I will try and think of a great thing my body does for me. Here are a few I have thought of so far:
- My body lets me hike, bike, swim and do all he other active things I recently discovered I enjoy.
- It lets me travel, which is probably my favorite thing ever!
- It gave me my amazing son.
- It lets me work and earn a living, so I can do all the things I love.
- It has given me 35 great years of service so far!
My social faux pas are another matter. I feel like this will be the hardest thing for me to not beat myself up over. I know there is a little bit of a perfectionist living inside me, and she loves to come out whenever I say or do something I probably shouldn’t. For right now, whenever that nagging little voice spews out I am going to listen, process what she says, let it go and try and think of something I like about myself. I made a list for that too!
- I am a caring person
- I am super loyal to those I love
- I am not affraid of hard work
- I like my eyes (everyone needs a little vanity now and then!)
- I have a curious, open mind
Hopefully, this refocusing will help counter those rotten regret thoughts!
Identify your action step(s) to love yourself today. What is ONE action (or more if you desire) you can take today to express self-love?
I think I will start by giving myself a nice relaxing weekend. I’m thinking a long hike followed by a good meal and a hot bubble bath. Hopefully I can get the hubby involved and weasle a nice massage out of him 🙂
Say your new belief(s) and affirmation
“I love myself unconditionally. I am amazing and a great person!”
