It’s day four in my Countdown to my New Me Makeover! If you missed the last couple of days, I am easing myself into this huge makeover by completing Celestine Chua’s 15 day affirmation challenge on her blog Personal Excellence. It has been pretty interesting so far, and I am starting to feel really ready for my one year New Me Makeover starting October 1!
Today’s Topic is Overcoming Obstacles
We all face overcoming obstacles every day. The more goals you have and the more you work, the more obstacles you will come across. I don’t know about you but sometimes it is hard to stay positive and view obstacles as opportunities, not irritations. Obstacles help us realize how bad we want something, and help us separate important goals worth working for, from less important “stuff.” And. of course, there is nothing quite like feeling of overcoming obstacles to make you feel like you are on top of the world!
Identify an obstacle you’re facing currently
I am having trouble carving out time to study. I am in Grad school, on top of taking Italian and a class to become and English as a Second Language teacher, and I am having trouble carving out time to get all of my studying done. I always have good intentions to get all of my studies done (on top of work, taking care of my family, cooking more and getting enough exercising), but it seems like something always comes up and I end up rushing (or just not getting it done!)
Identify Action(s) to overcome this obstacle
There are several things I want to do to start to carve more time out of my schedule for school:
- Make better use of the Pomodoro method (you can find out more about it Here) and start taking more breaks when I am studying so I can focus better and not let myself get distracted.
- Learn to say NO. I feel like I spend a lot of time doing things that aren’t contributing to my success. I want to take more control of my schedule and learn to say no to things that aren’t important.
- Start going to bed earlier, so I can wake up earlier. I used to need about 5 hours of sleep and I was good. Nowadays, its more like 8-9. I want to get an earlier start to my day, so I can get more done and have more time for studying in the evening, but I do not want to give up my sleep! I need to figure out the best time to get to bed so that I can get up around 5-6 AM and still feel rested.
- Cut out the online distractions. Less Facebook, check my email only twice a day, and no more Toy Blast or Jewels and Gems on my phone 🙁
Create new positive belief(s) to help you overcome this obstacle.
I have 24 hours in my day, and I won’t waste them. I can find time for everything, I just need to prioritize. I will become better at overcoming obstacles.
Say your new belief(s), along with today’s affirmation:
“I’ve the power to overcome any obstacle that stands in my way. I have 24 hours in my day, and I won’t waste them. I can find time for everything, I just need to prioritize. I will become better at overcoming obstacles”
