Do you have champagne taste on a Bud Light budget? Me Too! I love good food, travel, pretty things and the good life. I also hate to spend money I don’t have to! What’s a girl to do?
I learned to prioritize. And I learned the hard way.
Like many people, I got myself into trouble with debt. I had credit card bills, student loans, hospital bills, debt, debt debt! I was up to my ears in it!
None of it seemed real though until it hit my pay check.
I didn’t even know they could do that 🙁
Things got really real, really fast. I had never been the most motivated individual, and my paychecks were nothing to write home about as it was. Once 25% started coming out in garnishments, I knew I had to make some changes.
I had no idea where to begin…..
I decided to jump in with both feet, and I started to pay down credit cards, got on an income based student loan repayment plan, and took a good, hard look at where my money was going.
I was pretty surprised at what I found.
For example, I had no idea I spent so much on food! I come from a family of eaters, and we excelled at it. What I didn’t come from though, was a family of cooks. I was spending hundreds of dollars a month eating out! Same with beauty supplies-I mean how many tubes of lipstick does the average girl need??
I quickly realized I was throwing money away with both hands 🙁
Changes needed to be made, and I knew I needed some help. I spent hours and hours “researching” online. I read every debt blog, frugal living blog and money saving blog I could find. Many of the ideas were great-for someone else. A few things made sense though, and I started making small changes.
I started following DIY blogs. I checked out homesteading sites and beauty on a budget websites. I got myself on a (Gasp!) budget (albeit, a pretty lenient one…more on that later), and threw myself into making over my money.
I am by no means perfect, but I am learning!
This blog is a reflection of my journey, and hopefully a help to anyone who was in the same situation I was. It’s not a budgeting blog or a DIY blog or a financial advising or money management blog. There are many, many wonderful examples of each of those available online already. This blog is a place to share tips and tricks for living within your means, while still enjoying the lifestyle you want (whatever that entails!)
So get comfy and join me!
P.S. I love hearing from you all! Please feel free to comment, email or hit me up on social media 😀
