Who doesn’t love free stuff?
I’m sure it is pretty obvious from this blog that I love me some freebies! Nothing more fun then going to the mailbox and finding a box in it that you didn’t have to pay for.
The internet is a treasure trove of free stuff for those willing to put in the time to look. Luckily for you, I already did that! Here is my list of the 25 coolest FREE things you can find on the internet right now:
1. Exercise & Diet
Skip the gym! There are literally thousands of free resources for exercise videos, plans charts and apps online. Like Yoga? Try DoYogaWithMe.com. In a rush? Try Interval training. Want to start running? Couch to 5k has an excellent plan to get you from couch potato to marathon runner.
While these are great ways to start, if you are like you you need some accountability and support. Spark People has an amazing system set up with food and exercise tracking, weight loss support and advice, free forums and user blogs, and tons of other helpful things to help you shed the weight. They also have several apps to make it easier to lose wight on the go.
2. Learn a Language
I spent $100’s of dollars learning Spanish between online programs, tutors and classes. I don’t regret it for a minute, but I am super happy that if I ever want to try for a third language I won’t have to break the bank to do it!
Duolingo is a great free resource to help you learn just about any modern language. They have online learning and a fun little app to learn on the go. I just downloaded the Dutch portion of the app to start learning Dutch. Anyone want to help me practice?
Here are a few more sites for my budding polyglot friends:
Fluent in 3 Months forum (great place to connect with other learners!)
3. Free Education
If you need a refresher on math, art, computer programming, economics, physics, chemistry, biology, medicine, finance, history and more, Kahn Academy is an amazing free website for teachers, parents and learners. It offers hundreds of hours of videos and tutorials. You can test yourself to see what you already know and where you should start.
4. Free Entertainment
My frugal people all know the library is a great place to get free books, but if you haven’t been there in a while you may not know that it is a great place for free online content!
Our local library offers free online games and coloring pages for children, free MP3 downloads, and even free movie streaming. in addition to the free stuff you can find at the library itself (can you say video games and movies, books, and so much more!).
5. Free Movies & TV
Speaking of free movies, apart from the library, there are lots of places to view free movies online. Open Culture offers hundreds of free movies including many classics. Crackle is another great place to stream free movies-and the best part is you don’t have to sign up!
If you prefer to see your movies in the theater, like I do, There are freebies for that as well. Sign up with Wild About Movies, Gofobo, Warner Brothers, Advance Screenings, Fandango, and Sony to find out about free advance screenings in your area
Finally, if you prefer a good old fashioned DVD, sign up with Redbox for their Deal Zone, Emails and Text Message notifications for free codes. Inside Red Box also offers a listing of most current free codes available.
7. Free Ebooks
I love to read, and my Kindle is just about full. I take it with me and read while I am waiting in line or for an oil change. Even if you don’t have a Kindle, you can still read Kindle (or Nook) Ebooks with free reading apps you can download online or through your app store. If you are looking to fill your library with great free books here are a few places to start:
8. Free Birthday Goodies
I love my birthday! It’s a whole day all about me where I rule the world…
OK, well, not really. But I usually do try to make it a fun day whenever it is a birthday day in the house. And of course, the best way to have fun is to have it for free!
Most restaurants will give you a free sundae or piece of pie on your birthday, but if you want to take it a stepbfarther, Freebirthdaytreats.com and The Penny Hoarder have awesome listings of tons of freebies available for birthday boys and girls. Bucca di Beppo, Ulta, and The Melting Pot are some of my favorites, but there are hundreds to chose from!
9. Free Camping
Disclaimer: I hate camping. I really, really, really hate it. That being said, I have friends that love it. And with 3 dogs, hotels aren’t always an option when traveling. If you are one of those people who love the outdoors, or if you really just want to get away on the cheap, check out Freecampsites.net to plan your next camping adventure. (Just make sure you read the descriptions closely, there are a few pay sites mixed in with the freebies). Boondocking.org also has a listing of some more out of the way places to pop a tent free.
10. Free Investing
With all of the money you are going to be saving, you are going to need somewhere to invest it. There is a trend lately towards free or low cost investing options. Two of my favorites are Loyal3 and Robin Hood.
I personally have an automatic account with both sites. Loyal3 lets me set up an account and withdraw money from my checking account each month automatically to purchase stocks of my choosing. There is no charge to buy or sell, but the selection is limited to certain stocks. The site s very user-friendly and a great way to get started investing.
I also have an account with Robin Hood. It is a little more complicated to use than Loyal3 (you need to download an app), but it is also free to buy and sell, and Robin Hood offers a much larger of investment choices including stocks, mutual funds and EFTs.
Stay tunes for part 2 coming soon!
